localization - What's the best way to order list of countries in French from a usability standpoint? -

i have list of countries display in dropdown menu. now, because of french translations, list either needs re-ordered, or countries need rewritten.

for example, canary islands translated Îles canaries in french. should re-order list Îles grouped togheter? or should write canaries, Îles. additionally, people able navigate Îles typing accented Î?

why go "canaries, Îles"? keep english order? imagine english list have "islands, canary"

in general internationalisation not hard: turn table , think want if german or french software translated english.
