redirect - .htaccess Redirecting to a file messes the folder name -

i have no clue how use .htaccess far got simple redirect.

redirect /global-awards http://religiousfreedomandbusiness.org/global-awards.html

the problem have folder named /global-awards/ when try go global-awards/finalist.html browser turns name of folder /global-awards.html/finalist.html

edit: code multiview:

options -multiviews directoryindex index.php redirect /global-awards http://religiousfreedomandbusiness.org/global-awards.html # begin wordpress <ifmodule mod_rewrite.c> rewriteengine on rewritebase / rewriterule ^index\.php$ - [l] rewritecond %{request_filename} !-f rewritecond %{request_filename} !-d rewriterule . /index.php [l] </ifmodule> # end wordpress

don't mix mod_alias i.e. redirect directive mod_rewrite rules. have this:

options -multiviews directoryindex index.php # begin wordpress <ifmodule mod_rewrite.c> rewriteengine on rewritebase / rewriterule ^index\.php$ - [l,nc] rewriterule ^global-awards/?$ /global-awards.html [l,nc,r=301] rewritecond %{request_filename} !-f rewritecond %{request_filename} !-d rewriterule . /index.php [l] </ifmodule> # end wordpress

make sure clear browser cache before testing change.
